About the Internship

The Advanced Wildlife Care Internship is designed for volunteers who are ready to take the next step in wildlife rehabilitation. This internship focuses on the medical and veterinary aspects of rehabilitation, while continuing to build advanced skills in wildlife husbandry and patient care. Interns work closely with the wildlife care team to support the treatment and recovery of more medically complex patients and species that require greater skill and experience to care for successfully. This internship builds on the fundamentals of wildlife rehabilitation and provides deeper exposure to the clinical side of wildlife care.

What You’ll Do

Advanced Wildlife Care Interns participate in the care and treatment of a variety of wildlife patients, including:

  • Participating in patient exams and treatment planning support
  • Assisting with medical treatments and procedures
  • Administering medications orally and through injections (SQ and IM) and learning treatment protocols
  • Monitoring patient health, recovery, and behavior and communicating observations to the care team
  • Providing advanced husbandry and daily care for rehabilitation patients
  • Assisting with the care of more medically complex or high-needs patients
  • Hand-rearing more challenging or specialized species

Veterinary Admissions Info

All hours are performed under the direct supervision of licensed rehabbers and under the oversight of our Director of Veterinary Medicine, and intern hours are typically considered "vet experience" by vet school admissions departments.
