Internships at AWARE

AWARE offers animal care internships on a rolling basis throughout the year. Most interns are students and/or people looking for experience to support a career in veterinary, biology, or other similar fields, but internships are open to anyone 16 or older, with or without experience. All hours are performed under the direct supervision of licensed rehabbers and under the oversight of our Director of Veterinary Medicine, and intern hours are typically considered "vet experience" by vet school admissions departments.

Internships are 240 hours and interns must schedule between 12 and 40 hours per week. Accordingly, internships are typically completed in between 6 and 20 weeks.

Intern responsibilities typically include, but are not limited to, diet preparation and feeding, syringe and gavage feeding, husbandry, handling and restraint, PO, IM, and SQ medications, cleaning and other housekeeping duties, assisting with examinations and medical procedures such as applying splints, wound care, and surgeries. Handling of rabies vector species only permitted under direct supervision by a Wildlife Care Supervisor for interns with pre-exposure rabies vaccinations and proof of titer.
