About the Internship

The Wildlife Communications (Comms) Internship is a unique opportunity to help wildlife and the people who care about them — all from your computer. Interns serve as part of AWARE’s Help Desk, responding to emails from members of the public who have found injured, orphaned, or displaced wildlife. Through thoughtful communication and accurate information, Comms interns help guide people toward safe, humane solutions that benefit both wildlife and the community. This role is ideal for volunteers who enjoy writing, problem solving, and educating others, and who want to deepen their knowledge of wildlife while making a meaningful impact.

What You’ll Do

As a Comms Intern, you will:

  • Respond to Help Desk emails from the public about wildlife concerns
  • Provide guidance for situations involving injured or orphaned wildlife
  • Help people resolve human–wildlife conflicts peacefully
  • Use prepared response materials while adding clear, conversational, and professional communication
  • Assist members of the public in identifying species and understanding wildlife behavior

What the Schedule Looks Like

You will need to be available between either 9:30 AM – 2:30 PM or 2:30 PM – 7:30 PM on your assigned day(s). However, the work itself only requires at most about 3 hours of active time during that window. Work can be done entirely remotely. Most interns complete their work in short sessions of 30–45 minutes, checking and responding to emails 4–5 times throughout the shift.

Why Apply?

This internship is an excellent way to build a strong foundation in wildlife rehabilitation concepts and wildlife identification. Interns also gain access to an online classroom that teaches you how to identify many species including:

  • Songbirds (adults and babies)
  • Raptors
  • Snakes
  • Amphibians
  • And many other native species

You’ll also learn the principles of wildlife natural history, ethical intervention, and peaceful coexistence strategies — knowledge that is incredibly valuable for anyone interested in wildlife care, education, or conservation.

Comms Interns play a vital role in helping wildlife across Georgia by ensuring the public receives fast, accurate and compassionate guidance when they encounter animals in need. If you enjoy writing, learning about wildlife, and helping people peacefully coexist with wildlife, this internship offers a flexible and impactful way to get involved.
