Wildlife Ambassador Husbandry, Handling & Education (Handler Intern)

- Commitment: 12 hours per week plus attend three events/programs

About the Internship
The Ambassador Handler Internship offers a unique opportunity to work closely with AWARE’s permanent resident wildlife ambassadors — native Georgia animals that help us inspire conservation and connect the public with wildlife. Interns gain hands-on experience caring for a variety of species while learning the skills needed to safely and effectively work with ambassador animals in both husbandry and educational settings.
What You’ll Do
As an Ambassador Handler Intern, you will assist with:
- Daily husbandry and care for permanent resident wildlife
- Operant conditioning and training
- Designing and implementing enrichment activities
- Assisting with medical care and observation
- Participating in educational outreach, including festivals, community events, and programs
This internship also includes continuing education workshops designed to build specialized wildlife handling skills, such as:
- Leatherworking for falconry and handling equipment
- Basic glovework training
